Certification and compliance
Certification and compliance
More and more the Water and Sewage Companies (WaSC) are seeking 3rd party verification to underpin their acceptance of grease control devices, recently a plethora of ‘new’ systems have been thrust on the sector with competing claims of ‘revolutionary processes’, ‘maintenance free’ or similar none of which are independently verified by a recognised authority.
PDI 101 is the verification that seems to be gaining the most traction with the compliance authorities and is only available via actual successful testing and Certification of the device by NSF/Plumbing and Drainage Institute (PDI).
A claim of ‘PDI compliant’ is not an assurance of either testing or indeed that your WaSC will accept the unit, there is a steadily growing list of sites that have had such units rejected for compliance resulting in the requirement for the facility to acquire the correct system having wasted their time and money on an un verified unit.
Flow rates are also important as the verification issued by NSF/PDI strictly relates to the test flow rate, claims of ‘active’ flowrates do not relate to testing and are widely used by mechanical Grease Removal Units- the tested and verified flow rates for these devices are often only a fraction the claimed ‘active’ rate.
What does ‘certification’ mean to me?
Certification is important to you, it separates fact from ‘sales claims’ verifying that the which is claimed by a manufacturer for their ‘latest and greatest ‘hydro whatever’ or ‘maintenance free’ magic box is underpinned by more than mere rhetoric and hype.
The NSF, IAPMO & PDI test procedures are undertaken independently by the NSF and proves that a GRU works as described, it is the only recognised test as it emulates real world conditions.
However, the ‘PASS’ benchmark is set quite low; a GRU need only recover 33% of the grease introduced to claim a ‘PASS’ and is also related to a specific flow rate through the unit.
Goslyn systems pass these tests with over 98% grease recovery at the declared flow rates this is the highest efficiency recorded for any Certified unit.
Our test results are available to download whilst our claimed competitors do not readily release their actual test results or indeed have not even submitted their equipment for test!
